There are 18 Biosphere Reserves in 9 Canadian provinces, from the Atlantic to the Pacific (Only Prince-Edward Island and Newfoundland don’t have one) and by the the Northwest Territories. Each of them represents a strong sense communal responsibility and empowerment regarding the future of its region. From forestry to community development, from tourism management to biodiversity conservation, from large scale agriculture to the fight against racism, the different management committees of BR Biosphere Reserve take on contemporary and complex challenges.
The communication between canadian Biosphere Reserves is guaranteed by the Canadian Biosphere Reserves Association (CBRA Canadian Biosphere Reserves Association ). This is a non-profit organization founded in 1997 and working in order to offer support to the BRs of the country and to coordinate certain national projects.
